Working very hard right now… not much time to shoot- let alone process- personal stuff, but I wanted to share a few fall goodies before the season gets away from me! And you at least want to see my little hoodlums’ Hallowe’en costumes, don’t you? Sure you do.

I was born to laugh
I learned to laugh through my tears
I was born to love
I’m gonna learn to love without fear
“Born”
Over the Rhine (Karin Bergquist/ Linford Detweiler)
So, Kirsten and her bridal attendants were getting ready in a rather silent room, when someone noted a need for some atmosphere music. The room happened to have a CD player, but no one had any CDs. I offered that I did have some in my car but that I’m tragically unhip when it comes to modern pop music. “I have a lot of Over the Rhine,” I said. (Incidentally, if you’re unfamiliar with Over the Rhine, do yourself a favor and get familarized, stat. Seriously. Go download some tunes and check out some YouTube clips of their live performances as soon as you’re done browsing my blog. Doooo eeeet. You won’t be sorry.
)
“We love Over the Rhine! Our first dance is to Born!” exclaimed Kirsten. Of course, shameless fangirl that I am, I had no less than five of their albums in my car, including the album with that single. I’d met with Kirsten and Kris twice before their wedding day and our personalities had immediately clicked, so I don’t know why I should have been surprised that we would have OtR love in common. Apparently, we’d even been at the same concert a few weeks earlier. When I headed over to the guys’ room to get shots of them getting ready, Kris asked if my vehicle was the one with the awesome bumper sticker (shameless fangirl, remember?).
If this started things off on a very cool note, things only got better from there. All week the prospective weather report had been dreary, with storms expected throughout the day. It was ominously overcast when I arrived to begin shooting, but the rain was holding off. Shortly before the ceremony in Indian Hill, contrary to every forecast for that day, the skies opened up and the sun shone cheerfully. Later that evening, once the reception was in full swing in the shelter of Covington’s Embassy Suites overlooking the Ohio River and gorgeous Cincinnati skyline, the storms that had been predicted all day hit with a glorious, almost festive ferocity. A perfect end to a perfect wedding day for a truly beautiful couple with an inspirational love.

All due respect to Lifetouch, it kills me to pay someone else to take pictures of my kids. Nonetheless, in the name of tradition, I dutifully suck it up every year. For his very first school portrait experience, my dapper little lad donned his “just like Daddy” togs, working it so adorably that I had to grab a few shots of my own after I picked him up from school today…
