I came close to plummeting to my death at the Cincinnati Zoo when I was my son’s age (the speed of my heroic father’s sprint to save my neck in the barest nick of time is the stuff of family legend). Despite this (or maybe because of it), I have a special spot in my heart for it. I didn’t grow up in Cincinnati (we were closer to both the Toledo and Columbus zoos), but there’s a reason it is routinely include in lists of the top ten zoos in the country. It really is a beautiful, amazing place, and every time we go- because we do get season passes almost every year- I ask myself why we don’t go more often…
