nostalgic inspiration

When I met with Rebecca & Jonathan for their consultaiton, not only did our personalities click, but our aesthetic proclivities seemed particularly harmonious. The bride mentioned her affinity for the style of the 1930s, and intimated that their wedding (including her attire) would have elements that reflected this, which in turn informed my own approach vis a vis shooting and processing. In preparation, I went through some of my own old family photos from the Art Deco period. I also spent some time developing new treatments for post processing, drawing inspiration not only from those vintage family photos, but also from documentary and studio publicity photography from bygone Hollywood eras. The day itself was gorgeous, with none of the forecasted rain, and I had a wonderful time working with this sweet couple. Here are some highlights, as I work on processing the rest of the images from this beautiful wedding…

It seems like the proverbial blink of an eye since my little niece preceded me down the aisle in a taffeta and chiffon ivory party gown with a little pink satin sash, pearl-cuffed gloves and halo of rosettes and ribbon streamers, her adorable, beaming gap-toothed grin lighting the way for me and my father as I took that walk to my soon-to-be-husband’s arm. Time flies as it always does, though, and now my niece is not so little anymore; indeed, she has blossomed into a beautiful young woman and is now a high school graduate!

an intimate affair

Alex and Sandhya’s wedding may have been small in scale, but it was certainly not diminutive when it came to elegance, style and heart. Every detail was exquisitely personal, from the fabulous concert performed by their talented friends (Alex is himself an accomplished opera singer), to the stirring testimonials offered by loved ones during the ceremony, to the heartwarming and witty Seussian-style rhyming vows they wrote. Being part of this wonderful couple’s special day was truly an honor and pleasure.
