So, anyone who gets the obscure title reference gets brownie points. Today was one of those teacher/ staff development days. My daughter was especially excited because a day off school for something other than inclement weather is a not only an extra free day, but one that is not doomed to be spent in a cabin fever-induced coma. As an added bonus, the venues that typically have weekend crowds are much more enjoyable during low-traffic weekdays. What better way to spend a day off school than on an edu-cultural outing, yes? Off to the art museum!

My daughter has been wearing glasses for five years now, and this is the first time I let her choose her own frames. She first had her heart set on these, and they did look really cute on her, but they just didn’t fit the bridge of her nose well, so the optician helped her select a pair that was a better fit for her. They took a little longer to come in than any of us expected, and she was starting to get really antsy. Finally they arrived this week, and she is just happy as can be with her sophisticated new style. I’m still getting used to how much more grown up she appears!

If you don’t mind the sound of my own horn tooting a little… look who cracked the top 10 photographers for the fourth quarter at the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association. It’s a honor that means a lot to me for the extremely talented company in which it places me and my work. The Artistic Guild is a division of the Wedding Photojournalist Association highlighting fine art wedding photojournalism. Membership is extended to WPJA members who place in the AG division quarterly photo competitions, and includes such distinguished artists as Jeff Ascough, Anna Kuperberg, the Boutwells, and Susan Stripling. While I’m not copping to any delusions of grandeur, I won’t deny that it’s a mighty sweet thing- and certainly inspirational- for an up-and-comer to see her name listed among some of the superstars of her field.
